Sweet Memories Nominated for Apparel / Wearable products in Australian Promotional Products Awards 2019
The Apparel/Wearable Products category is about recognising outstanding branding campaign on any form of apparel, uniform or item that can be worn and used in a creative, flexible and effective application.
ReedPOP is the official supplier for Marvel design T-shirts that are sold at their Oz Comic-Con events across the country and they had a vision to get their t-shirts printed in Australia.
“When we started printing the Marvel clothing in 2017 for the events, we were told exactly what brand and style shirt to print on,” Gork says of Marvel’s strict branding guidelines that had to be adhered to. “To deliver the best possible customer service experience, though, our Sweet Memories’ team believe in ensuring great quality in everything we do. With that commitment in mind, our feeling that the shirt initially suggested was not the best t-shirts for the job, meant that we made the decision to print onto our own suggested shirt brand – a brand we believe lends itself to many print methods that allows the print to “pop”. We sent a few printed samples to ReedPOP, who sent the shirts to the USA for approval and, in turn, the samples were approved by Marvel, who have continued to use this shirt for the past two years for all their garments.”
The Thanos I Survived the Snap t-shirt design had unique design elements that added complexity to the printing process to ensure key design elements stood out and was produced using a few different techniques combined into one. For the background of the logo, we decided on a four-colour discharge print, which allows the print background to remain soft, even after washing, while plastisol screen print and peal finish was used for the rest of the print to highlight the ‘shiny’ jewels.
From the price point, to the wash-and-wear friendliness of the clothing item – and the durability of the printing process chosen – this was a t-shirt designed to please the end-user Oz Comic-Con fans, after first impressing the Disney and Marvel executives.
“Our job was then to ensure the printers we work with are ready to start printing as soon as the designs are approved – enabling us to ensure the shirts are printed and delivered within that crucial week in the lead-up to the event,” says Gork.
“The popularity of the shirt is no doubt due to the high-production quality of the design”, says the Oz Comic-Con event coordinator. “‘Turnaround on the production preshow was tight, however Lisa and her team went above and beyond to ensure our deadline was met and the stock arrived in time for our show.”
“The Thanos t-shirt premiered at Brisbane Oz Comic-Con in 2018. It was the first time we’d ever had a t-shirt coming so close to selling out, we had to reorder it for the next show,” the client says. “Finding promotional product-related marketing solutions for other brands helps their business grow – and that means we’re doing our job properly.”
