Project name: Office of Transport Safety Investigations (OTSI) Stress Bus

Project name: Office of Transport Safety Investigations (OTSI) Stress Bus - Sweet Memories Pty Ltd

The Brief

The NSW Office of Transport Safety Investigations (OTSI) wanted a new and engaging way to connect with the public, raise awareness of transport safety and increase the organisation’s visibility across metropolitan and regional networks.

OTSI proposed a high quality, bus shaped stress reliever designed to resemble a Sydney public transport bus and create lasting brand recognition.

However, with only 1,000 units required, producing a completely custom stress item would normally be unfeasible due to high manufacturing minimums and expensive custom moulding costs.

The Solution

Rather than abandoning the concept or suggesting a generic alternative, we worked closely with a specialist supplier to identify an existing bus shaped stress reliever that could be adapted.

The original product bore little resemblance to a Sydney bus, so the project became a collaborative design and manufacturing exercise.

Working with our factory and the client, we completely transformed the stock product by carefully repositioning colours, graphics and decorative elements. Every available print area was used to recreate the appearance of Sydney’s public transport network.

The customised artwork incorporated realistic side passenger doors, rear details and graphics across the top of the bus, cleverly disguising the original foam base and creating the appearance of a fully custom-made product.

The Result

By using precise artwork placement instead of creating an expensive new mould, we avoided lengthy manufacturing lead times and delivered all 1,000 stress buses within the required deadline.

The finished product successfully brought OTSI’s original vision to life, overcoming the order quantity and production limitations that would normally prevent a project like this from proceeding.

The campaign demonstrated how creativity, supplier collaboration and technical expertise can transform an existing product into something that looks completely bespoke without the expense of custom manufacturing.

A Sydney bus with a creative twist! 🚌

The NSW Office of Transport Safety Investigations wanted a bus-shaped stress reliever that reflected Sydney’s public transport network.

Creating a completely custom mould wasn’t practical for the quantity required, so we found an existing bus shape and completely transformed it through clever artwork and precise print placement.

We added passenger doors, realistic rear details and graphics across every available print area turning a standard foam stress reliever into a product that looked completely custom-made.

A great example of how creativity and thoughtful customisation can bring a client’s vision to life.
